Regional Recommendation King Valley Victoria
Posted by deb on Monday, December 22 @ 13:53:00 EST (507 reads)
Rinaldo's at Dal Zotto Wines, King Valley, Victoria: Deep in the lovely King Valley, this restaurant serves delectable food to match a raft of unusual Dal Zotto wines. Chef-owner Adam Pizzini named the restaurant after his late father, who migrated to Australia from Italy in 1959, and creates dishes with an Italian influence such as gnocchi with goat ragu and parmesan. The food is perfectly suited to the local wines, which include sangiovese, nebbiolo and prosecco. www.rinaldos.com.au.

Glebe Sydney Italian Dinner Oct Dates 2008
Posted by deb on Tuesday, September 30 @ 09:51:00 EST (670 reads)
Cucina di Lusso Italian Food and Wine Association Dinners Wednesday 8th Saturday 11th Wednesday 15th October When in Rome…………
Every year, around 10 million tourists visit Rome, so there’s a fair chance many of our Members (like me) would have done so.
There’s also a fair chance that during your stay you would have wondered about the ‘regionality’ of Roman cuisine! I think the answer may be that it’s certainly distinctive – the way the Romans mix garlic, rosemary and white wine, the Roman way of roasting, their love of pasta, pulses and offal; and lamb – but perhaps not regional in the way of say Friuli or Emilia-Romagna.
In October’s Food and Wine Association Dinners at Cucina di Lusso in Glebe – three next month rather than the normal two – we are going to probe some of the do’s and don’ts around dining out in Rome. Because (dare I say it) it’s “not about the food” in this crazy town of ‘eating out’, scooter riding civil servants from all over Italy and beyond, backpackers rubbing shoulders with celebrities; it’s more about the experience.
So….as we dine, we’ll reminisce – with maps and pictures - through various restaurant precincts of Rome, and pick up a dish or three to eat on the way!
The place : Cucina di Lusso Cnr Glebe Point Road and Parramatta Road
The time : 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm
The dollars : $70 per person (which includes the dinner, wine with each course, the 'workshop' and tea or coffee
The booking : telephone 0411 444 708 (A plea from me...lately there have been quite a few cancellations or 'no shows' . I'm determined not to ask for credit card details on booking, and am only too aware that things happen beyond one's control, but......)
Kind regards
Rob Fairall

Posted by deb on Monday, May 12 @ 10:43:34 EST (642 reads)
Stefano de Pieri was born in Treviso, near Venice, and followed his brother, Sergio, to Australia in 1974 at the age of nineteen. Being Italian he loves cooking and fulfilled a great dream by opening his own restaurant. Stefano's, located in the Mildura Grand Hotel, has won great acclaim from the time it opened, and is one of only four Victorian country eating establishments to be awarded three hats in The Age Good Food Guide Awards. As well as running Stefano's and overseeing all the wine cellars at the Grand Hotel, Stefano established the annual Mildura Arts Festival, and remains its honorary president.
He has a finger in many other pies including the Board of the Victorian Arts Centre Trust, the Oxford Companion to Australian Food and the Murray River Tourism Association. His TV show is a popular ABC program http://www.abc.net.au/gondola/default.htm

Recommendation for Best Regional Restaurant: Stefanos Mildura
Posted by deb on Friday, April 04 @ 12:10:29 EST (1533 reads)
Stefanos at the Grand Hotel in Mildura would have to be my fav regional restaurant. R.
Located in the cellar of the Grand Hotel, Stefano's is an award-winning restaurant that seats 60 lucky patrons. The space is intimate and softly lit and the walls lined with art. Enjoy a 5 or 6 course Italian style banquet with wines selected from an excellent list to match each course.
The menu changes daily and features regional and seasonal produce. Contact Details:

Italian Food & Wine Association Meeting 2nd April 2008 Sydney
Posted by deb on Friday, March 28 @ 02:00:00 EST (706 reads)
Our next meeting at Cucina di Lusso in Glebe is easy, the date coinciding with the release of our Autumn Menu - in fact, we'll launch the Menu that night! We're still fine tuning here and there, but I'd like Members and their guests to try the following new dishes.... Antipasti - Sage fritters. Fresh sage leaves, dipped in a batter of egg, milk, lemon and grappa. MMMM different and tasty snack
Entree - Frico. The famous 'basket' of reggiano and montasio cheese, filled with seasonal vegetables
Main A choice of - Rotolo di coniglio. A roast of farmed rabbit, infused with truffle paste and wrapped in prosciutto - Huntsman's chicken (more commonly called 'pollo alla cacciatore)
Dessert - Ricotta and parmesan tart I hope you find the menu different and compelling! I'll talk about the dishes, help select the wines and generally have fun with you! Members are encouraged to bring a friend or two, and introduce them to the Comune di Lusso The price is just $70, including wine (the best value in Sydney). The time? Aim for 6.30pm, we'll eat at 7. Just reply by email with numbers, and call me anytime on 0411 444 708 for more details. Ciao Rob Fairall

Great Tastes Of Italy in the Adelaide Hills
Posted by deb on Monday, April 23 @ 01:00:00 EST (590 reads)
Tuscan cuisine Eugenio (Tony) Sanso comes from Florence and specialises in the food of Tuscany at his Osteria Sanso in the Adelaide Hills. The restaurant occupies the refurbished stone and timber Britannia Hotel, built in 1848, in the old copper-mining town of Kanmantoo. Begin your meal with a bruschetta or an antipasto, progress to a pasta or risotto, select a main dish from a choice of grilled meats, with vegetables and herbs organically grown in Tony's kitchen garden, and end with a luscious dessert. The wine list includes a couple of Australian reds made from sangiovese, and Tuscans range from a simple flask of Chianti to a superb Brunello di Montalcino. Osteria Sanso, Princes Highway, Kanmantoo (phone (08) 8538 5008), is open for lunch Wednesday to Sunday, dinner Wednesday to Saturday, and is closes in September.
