minus 5º opens its doors at Sydney’s Circular Quay
Since its opening 3 months ago, Sydney’s minus 5º, a chilly vodka ice lounge built entirely out of ice and preserved at arctic temperatures, has enthralled all that have visited its frozen, yet inviting interior.
A truly unique experience, minus 5º has been capturing the world’s attention since first opening in 2002 in Auckland, and secondly in Queenstown in 2004. But, Sydney is the showpiece of the minus 5º family, with its stunning ice sculptures and breath taking interior.
The Sydney minus 5º venue is located at the previous Aqua Luna site in the heart of the Circular Quay dining precinct. minus 5º is kept at a chilly minus 5 degrees year round and entry to the ice lounge is $30 and includes a vodka *****tail of your choice. minus 5º is the ultimate vodka ice lounge offering a wide range of vodka based *****tails using only Absolut, Sweden’s premier vodka.
The human threshold for the body (particularly Australian ones!) to endure this igloo-like environment is for a maximum of 30 minutes and visitors are requested to wear overcoats, gloves and hats (which are supplied) at all times. What better way to chill out with friends in the heart of the city!
The minus 5º experience also includes Lenin, a premium vodka bar that serves over 70 different types of vodka from around the world. Lenin, whose name reflects the vodka bar’s Russian roots, is characterised by its warm and seductive interiors. Rich red fabrics, drapery seated booths and draped silks creating a warm atmosphere to complement minus 5º adventures. The Lenin courtyard bar is the ideal location to relax and take in Sydney’s world class views.
“Vodka is an under appreciated drink, but with no calories and the ability to lend itself to dozens if not hundred of creative *****tails, we believe vodka bars will be as popular in Australia as they throughout Europe,” said Craig.
The ultimate finale to the minus 5º experience is the premier wine bar and dining room, fino, which combines world class views with sumptuous and contemporary tasting plates and accompanied by a superior wine list. Ironwood beams, river stones and floor-to-ceiling windows create an earthy ambience that is reflected in the cuisine, inspired by Australia’s finest produce.
