Here is some practical hints when planning your next food and wine discovery:

1.      Have a map of the area you are about to travel.
2.      Print out the trails or recommendations you require and have them in your map.
3.      Use a mobile phone to check first whether a detouring place is open.
4.      Many of the suggested places can be quite expensive so if you have a limited budget, give the place a call to find out the average cost of a meal and then make a booking.
5.      Pack a picnic basket and Esky just in case. Make sure you have a cork-screw and some wineglasses.
6.      Tourist Information Centres have up to date information about attractions in the local areas. They also have brochures from adjoining areas, which you can also collect to research your trip along the way.
7.      Suggested places are only a guide and over the year some change hands, have new management or are just having a bad food day. Please if you find a better place than the one suggested or have had a bad experience, e-mail me at
deborah@inapickle.biz

8. Sharing your journey with other food and wine lovers may enhance the experience, if you are a large group, then it is wise to ring ahead to inform the places you will be coming.
9. Most of all enjoy.
 10.     Always ensure safe alcohol practises.

Australian Produce to Try Queensland Apple and Grape Festival March 5 2010
Posted by deb on Friday, February 19 @ 01:00:00 EST (86 reads)

The Apple and Grape Harvest Festival celebrates and promotes the harvest and lifestyle of the Granite Belt. The region is unique in Queensland: the combination of altitude and granite produces some of the country's best produce and wine.

The highlights of the festival include the Gala Ball, a black tie affair on Friday evening; the Wine Fiesta in the Park, Grand Parade, Queensland Grape Crushing Championships, and the Festival Fireworks are must sees on the Saturday; and to top off the festival on Sunday, sit back and relax in the park with the Multicultural Music Festival.

For market lovers, the Market in the Mountains will be running on Saturday and Sunday in the Civic Centre.

Latest Hot Food & Wine Gossip Latest Wine Tourism News in South Australia
Posted by deb on Thursday, February 18 @ 18:52:11 EST (62 reads)

South Australia's latest tourism campaign will cement Adelaide and the state's position as Australia's wine tourism capital, the Minister for Tourism said this week.

Created by the South Australian Tourism Commission, the new Cellar Door campaign focuses on South Australia's famed wine industry and is part of the State's biggest ever domestic marketing push.

Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith said that the campaign was aimed at high-yield, wine-loving east coast visitors.

"The campaign strongly promotes the fact that Adelaide has more than 200 cellar doors less than an hour's drive away" she said.

"[It] positions Adelaide and its surrounding wine regions as a cosmopolitan, beautiful and relaxed destination where visitors can reconnect with themselves and their partners in indulgent, authentic surroundings."

The Cellar Door campaign started last week with a successful online 'viral' campaign and continued this week with the launch of a new wine themed TV commercial. It is airing nationally with an emphasis on the Sydney and Melbourne markets.

Lomax-Smith added that the State's www.southaustralia.com tourism website now also features new wine and food information and holiday offers. A new South Australian Wine and Food Guide has also been launched as part of the campaign.

Last year, South Australia recorded a 9 percent rise in annual tourism expenditure, injecting $4.6 billion into the economy.
