Here is some practical hints when planning your next food and wine discovery:

1.      Have a map of the area you are about to travel.
2.      Print out the trails or recommendations you require and have them in your map.
3.      Use a mobile phone to check first whether a detouring place is open.
4.      Many of the suggested places can be quite expensive so if you have a limited budget, give the place a call to find out the average cost of a meal and then make a booking.
5.      Pack a picnic basket and Esky just in case. Make sure you have a cork-screw and some wineglasses.
6.      Tourist Information Centres have up to date information about attractions in the local areas. They also have brochures from adjoining areas, which you can also collect to research your trip along the way.
7.      Suggested places are only a guide and over the year some change hands, have new management or are just having a bad food day. Please if you find a better place than the one suggested or have had a bad experience, e-mail me at
deborah@inapickle.biz

8. Sharing your journey with other food and wine lovers may enhance the experience, if you are a large group, then it is wise to ring ahead to inform the places you will be coming.
9. Most of all enjoy.
 10.     Always ensure safe alcohol practises.

Posted by deb on Tuesday, January 06 @ 17:05:47 EST (7 reads)

Portarlington Mussel Festival

Event
10 Jan 2009

Address Parks Hall and Parklands
Newcombe St
Portarlington VIC 3223 Phone 0432547007 Email musselfestival@yahoo.com.au

The Portarlington Mussel Festival is organised by a dedicated committee of volunteers who wish to promote local produce as well as promote Portarlington as an ideal holiday destination. Portarlington is the mussel capital of Victoria, so it was a natural choice to run a mussel festival.

The festival will  showcase local produce, including wine, olives, and cheeses. There will be mussels to sample and purchase, prepared in a variety of ways. They will be available to purchase fresh from the Pier, and a charter boat will run trips to the mussel farms. Weather permitting, The sailing ship Enterprize will also be in Port to provide short sailing tours. The Portarlington Dry Boat Artistic Event (Race) will once again be held down by the Pier.

This year the South American band, "Inka Marka" will entertain visitors outdoors, while other entertainment will be held inside the community hall..

The Portarlington Bowling Club, Local Artists, Country Fire Authority, Scout Groups will be holding various activities.  This is a family focus festival, therefore there will be activities for all the family.
